Valentines Day Quarter Marathon or Three Mile Run
Thirteen lucky runners showed up at East
Pennsboro Middle School on a cold and wintry Valentine’s Day to brave
the elements on an oldie but goodie HARRC course through Summerdale.
This out and back hadn’t been offered in some four years as I recall but
was once a staple among favorite Sunday runs. If nothing else it
presents a beautiful panorama of Harrisburg on the return leg while
crossing over I-81.
First in overall for the Quarter Marathon distance was
Gary Grobman followed by
Tom Snedden who later shared that the run
brought back good memories. The undisputed female winner was Winter
Series Coordinator Marge Lebo who ran
unchallenged. The tandem duo of Francis Rego
and J. R. Bishop were also the sole
three milers in the pack but appeared to have enjoyed a bracing run.
I’d like to thank Charlie Laverty for
assisting with the finish line timing and regaling me with little known
facts in the history of East Pennsboro as we waited for the runners to
return.
